Safe Packing for Safe Moving

Today you are starting to pack your household items for your upcoming move.  Now begins what can be a rather complicated process.  The last thing that you would want to happen is to have any of your belongings and valuables damaged during the move.  Whether or not you are hiring a professional full service moving company, it is inevitable that you will be doing some packing.  Here are a few helpful tips to help ensure that none of your items get damaged and that no one gets hurt.

First, you must make sure that you have all of the right packing supplies that you will need.  The necessary supplies that you will use are strong tape, sturdy boxes in a variety of different sizes to accommodate all of your belongings and also packing materials (such as foam, peanuts and newspapers) to place inside of boxes to keep fragile items well cushioned and protected.  This list is not exclusive by any means and can get quite long depending on what and how much you will be moving.  Get these items squared away before you even think about starting to pack!  You must take into account the nature of each item on an individual basis.

When you have everything packed and ready to load up into a truck, don’t just put things on there in any given order.  It is highly recommended to load up the biggest things first and have them positioned at the far wall closest to the cab compartment.  You will probably need to make more than one trip and if so, start working your way down the list in relation to the sizes of your boxes.  Next, you should load up the heaviest of your boxes followed by lighter boxes and items that are not as fragile.  Finally, the most fragile of your possessions should be positioned together and out of the way of harm in the event that something falls over during the move or even better year, taken with you in a separate trip.

Make sure to team lift items that are heavy and lift with your legs and arms, not your back.  When loading and unloading, do not be reckless or hasty as this can lead to an accident.  By packing and unpacking with care and safety in mind, your move will be successful and efficient.
